Ouida Nisbett
ouidaCurrent Caribbean Star and Caribbean Star Award Holder Ouida Nisbett is one of a
few contemporary gospel/R&B/Soul artistes to capture the hearts of the British Virgin
Islands with her soulful vocals, originality, passion for music and spiritual intimacy.
Born on the beautiful island of St Kitts, and grew up in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, this talented
vocalist continues to fulfill her musical calling.


Her single ‘JUST’ which was released prior to her second CD project (Caribbean Soul)
held on to the #1 spot on the Virgin Islands Top 30 count down for 6 consecutive weeks.

ouidaHer next big song ‘WHEN YOU LOVE SOMEONE’ was chosen by the New York Film Academy
for a special video production.

This video production was featured on New York’s ‘Cinemondays’ on
December 2 2008.

Another milestone is her recent endorsement by ‘Digicel’ – the largest mobile
operator in the Caribbean which boasts a total of 26 markets in the Caribbean and
Central America alike.

Ouida’s music is message driven and focuses on uplifting and motivating others to
reach way down deep into their souls and find that magic to achieve their goals and
dreams. Her music inspires ladies and convinces them that they are diamonds and
stars and that they should let nothing or no one keep them down.

Working alongside great writers like Kelvin Titley and Kamau Georges, and talented
producers such as Kamau Georges (who has produced for the likes of Ludacris,
Beyonce, and other big names) and Alton Bertie (a musical genius who produced
Sherwin Winchester’s ‘Carnival Please Stay’ – which won ‘Best Groovy Soca for
2008’) this award winning vocalist is destined to accomplish big things.

Ouida has shared the stage with many world renown artists over the years including
the legendary, singer/songwriter, Kenneth ‘Baby Face’ Edmonds, as recent as
January 2010.

Beautiful, talented and inspirational are some of some of the adjectives that have to work extra hard to describe this talented young artist. Ouida Nisbett, known to her fans as Ouida, has a musical resume which includes albums, music videos, awards and numerous performances.

Her origins are rooted in a rich family history of talented vocalists and musicians which include her cousin, Alton Bertie. Ouida’s music encompasses gospel, soul and Rhythm & Blues. Her lyrics are uplifting inspirational and suited for listeners of all ages.

Her first album, ‘Blessings From Heaven’ included the hits ‘Give Me Faith’, ‘I Wonder Why’ and ‘Magic’. The recently released follow-up ‘Caribbean Soul’ unleashed ‘I Gotta Be’ and ‘When You Love Somebody’ on the airwaves. The third single from ‘Caribbean Soul’, ‘Just’ spent six consecutive weeks as the number one song on the ZROD Top 30 Countdown.

In 2005, Oudia won the prestigious Caribbean Star Award. She was chosen among thousand of entries as a finalist. At the finals in Antigua, she astounded and mesmerized the audience with the performance of her song, ‘I Wonder Why’. As she was announced the winner – the Caribbean Star – the news traveled quickly home to an elated BVI. As this artist recounted the experience, she says, ‘I feel as exhilarating and honored now as I did when I was chosen the winner’.

Recently, her musical resume has had the addition of a music video for ‘When You Love Somebody’. The video for this hit song has been well anticipated as it was chosen by the New York Film Academy for a special video production spearheaded by Onel Sanford-Belle and students of the film academy. The video features scenes in Tortola, Virgin Gorda and New York and was featured on New York’s ‘Cinemondays’ in December 2008.

You may have heard Ouida’s songs on the radio or on her MySpace page and BVIslanders may have seen her on JAHPHIX’s television performing. However, she is even more captivating in her live performances. At the ‘Artists Against Aids’ concert in November 2008, her rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s ‘And I am Telling You’ wowed the audience with her versatility and vocal strength. She has also held numerous concerts to show of her love for singing and her love for sharing her music with the community.

When asked what advice she wanted to share with young artists, Ouida offers ‘ensure that your music is positive as what you put out there you are responsible for – words have lasting meaning especially when others look up to you.’ She encourages the youth to keep positive and to be determined and faithful in pursuing their goals.

Ouida is looking to a future which extend will her musical resume with other music videos, tours and many more albums. As she looks to launch her music regionally and international, she humbly thanks her family, Jahphix, Kamau Georges, Alton Bertie and all her supporters for their love and appreciation. With her Magic’, she will continue to soar!
