It has been said the South Eastern Athletics Conference (SEC) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is the crucible of athletics competition and it is here where champions are made.
A few athletes that come to mind are Kerone Clement (University of Florida), Wallace Spearman (University of Arkansas), Veronica Campbell Browne (University of Arkansas), and of course Anguilla’s Shara Proctor (University of Florida),. Shara accrued twenty points (20) in the competition as she won the long jump with a distance of 6.47m or 21-2 ¾ feet and the triple jump with a distance of 13.48m/44-2.75. Shara and Charlotte Browning, both Florida University were the co recipients of the Cliff Harper trophy for the most points scored by an athlete. The last time Florida received such an award was in 2005 with Candice Scott. Shara’s efforts helped her school to the 2010 SEC title.
Shinelle Proctor was also in action over the weekend of the 27th and 28th February 2010 as her team the Fighting Illini participated in the Big Ten Championships which were held in Penn State University. She placed 19th in the high jump with a height of 1.63m. The Anguilla Amateur Athletics Federation would like to express its congratulations to Shara and Shinelle on their efforts during their respective competitions.
