(The Dune Preserve, Anguilla) – Fresh off of his appearance on ABC’s The Bachelor, Bankie Banx has announced the lineup for Moonsplash 2011. Bankie Banx will welcome Black Uhuru, Alaine, Orange Grove, British Dependency, Tahirah Banks, Ruffy, DJ Jazzy Jay, along with Moonsplash Allstars Cat Coore, Benjy Myaz and Junior Jazz. This year’s festival will run from Thursday March 17 through Sunday March 20.
The 21st Moonsplash returns premier sponsors LIME, Anguilla Tourist Board, Caribbean Liquors and Tobaccos and CuisinArt Resort and Spa. Bankie also welcomes Cap Juluca, and Sheriva as hotel sponsors.
Black Uhuru – led by Derrick “Duckie” Simpson – mark their second appearance on the Moonsplash stage. While reggae siren Alaine makes her first appearance on Anguilla. Alaine may be best known for her breakout hit “We Rise (In Love)” but will look to impress and entertain the Moonsplash audience with a variety of hits. One of the region’s best emerging reggae bands - Orange Grove – will also appear at Moonsplash for the first time. Orange Grove is based in Holland and includes member from the Dutch Antilles including St. Maarten, Curacao, Aruba and Surinam. Tahirah Banks will perform on Anguilla for the first time with her Texas-based band. Tahirah’s single “Exes” from her upcoming album has been receiving increasing radio play in the U.S. British Dependency featuring guitar-phenom Ruel Richardson will return to the Moonsplash stage. St. Maarten’s own Ruffy and Antigua’s DJ Jazzy Jay will also appear during the weekend of Moonsplash.
Moonsplash would not be Moonsplash without regulars and Moonsplash Allstars Cat Coore, Benjy Myaz and Junior Jazz. The accomplished artists and icons in their own right will join Bankie Banx to mark the Eastern Caribbean’s premier reggae and world music festival. Moonsplash 2011 will kickoff with a day of fun on the beach on Thursday March 17, and the official kickoff party will be held at The Dune Preserve beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday night. Daytime activities continue on the beach on Friday with live bands and games. Friday night’s performances – International Nite - will feature performances by The Moonsplash Allstars, Alaine, Tahirah Banks and Ruffy.
Daytime activities continue on Saturday with more live bands, games, and even more prizes and the night’s performances – Legend’s Nite - will feature Black Uhuru, Bankie Banx and Orange Grove. DJ Jazzy Jay will be the DJ for the weekend’s events.
Moonsplash ends on Sunday with the annual Grand Beach party.
Tickets will go on sale locally on March 3 and will be available locally at The Dune Preserve and LIME with other ticketing locations to be announced around the island.
